Prosthodontist – Prosthetic Dentistry
What is the area of focus of a Prosthodontist
Prosthodontists are dentists who have acquired a specialisation in treatment planning and full-mouth rehabilitation of functional and aesthetic problems of the oral cavity due to loss of one or several natural teeth (due to caries, periodontal disease or injury). Their goal is to improve the patient’s quality of life through the replacement of the lost teeth but also to provide rehabilitation of functional activities of the patient like chewing or speaking. The esthetic appearance of the patient is also put in to priority as Prosthodontics is a branch of Dentistry very intimate to Cosmetic (Esthetic Dentistry).
A Prosthodontist is obliged to present a three year certificate of specialisation in the field of Prosthetic Dentistry.
Prosthodontists always work with dental laboratories that manufacture the different structures of rehabilitation (from single crown or fixed partial dentures or complete/partial removable dentures on teeth or implants).
